McGrady family given Excellence in Community Service Award

Times News - 1/22/2021

Jan. 20—The Abraham Kuykendall Daughters of the American Revolution has presented the McGrady family with the Excellence in Community Service Award.

Chuck and Jean McGrady, with Chuck's brother Mike McGrady and sister Kathy McGrady, have dedicated decades of volunteer time to supporting children, health, literacy, the arts and the environment. They take community needs seriously, the chapter said in a news release.

In March 2020 when COVID-19 was shutting down jobs and services, the McGrady family, with the help, guidance and services of the United Way and Community Foundation, established the Henderson County COVID-19 Response fund.

This fund grew to over $400,000, with additional public donations and distributed the funds to 46 nonprofits.

Children and families received services in many areas such as food, housing, utility assistance, child care, medical and mental health services and more.
