Captrust donates to Franciscan Health to help vulnerable mothers with infants

Times - 4/26/2024

Apr. 25—Chesterton-based financial advisory firm Captrust donated $4,166 to Franciscan Health Michigan City's Prenatal Assistance Program to help vulnerable mothers with infants at home.

The Prenatal Assistance Program, located at 301 Homer St. in Michigan City, provides services like pregnancy education, counseling and peer support, also helping mothers gain access to public assistance programs, community services and hospital programs. It operates the Diaper Pantry that supplies diapers, wipes, formula, bottles and other supplies to needy families.

"One of Captrust's core values is community, and with that is our responsibility to share our time, money and energy within the communities in which we work," said Kelly Shikany, vice president and financial adviser for Captrust Chesterton. "By partnering with the Franciscan Health Foundation and supporting the Michigan City Prenatal Assistance Program, we are able to enrich the lives of local newborns who need our support."

Shikany, a Michigan City resident, served on the board of the Franciscan Health Foundation of Northern Indiana from 2019 to 2022. She learned about Franciscan's prenatal assistance program while serving in that role and suggested Captrust support it financially. Captrust also has donated to Franciscan Health's Center of Hope survivors program for victims of sexual assault, violence and trauma and its backpack program that furnishes school supplies to children in shelters.

"We are so grateful for Kelly's passion for our community programs and for the generous support from Captrust over the years," Franciscan Health Foundation of Northern Indiana Director of Development Debbie Tatum said. "They truly embody what it means to give back and bless others."
